For those of you who have gotten a gem/plate while carving, you must have already noticed that the carving animation sounds/looks different than the regular carve animation. It has a deeper sounding sound effect and a longer animation.
I was hunting tempered Odogaron and after killing him i was trying to carve but the girros wouldn't stop attacking me (i also had to fight a radobaan after thats why they were still attacking me). I noticed that the first few carve attempts didn't have the special animation but after being hit several times interrupting my animation on the 4th attempt at carving the animation changed and i actually got an odogaron gem.
Does this mean what you get on carve is decided at the start of the animation? This could have massive implications
With this i think there might be an explot. Go into a game with a friend, try and carve, if you get the normal sounding/looking animation, have them interrupt you with an attack. Repeat this until you get the rare carve sound/animation and hope for a gem not a plate.
Hopefully someone can test
EDIT: New march 22 patch made it so players cannot be hit by things when carving... exploit removed.
