Why is matchmaking broken?

I'm trying to play with my friend, and we're both on "A Kestodon Kerfuffle". But it won't let her join my session. Says that I still have cutscenes to watch. But After watching the cutscenes, I have to kill the monsters, and it still won't let her join. Why is this broken? Or is it not, and we're just doing online multiplayer wrong?
