Ahoy hoy everyone!
Just started playing MHS today, and it came with free DLC, one of which being a Qurupeco egg. I hatched it, and have been using it as my main monstie, but there's a problem. Pressing B while on a world map does nothing while riding him. it's supposed to do a monster call, but its not happening. Someone suggested pressing once while standing still and waiting, and I did that, but no resolve. Maybe i'm too early in the game? I just started, and just killed the story Arzuros. Help?

 

EDIT: Just went to the second area (frozen place) and he still does nothing when trying to call. Tried rebooting game and that didn't resolve the issue.

 

EDIT 2: So immediately after beating the story khezu it started working so it definitely appears to be unlocked through story progress. I'll leave this up in case someone else goes through this they now have a resource.
