When going for a rare drop, when do you start capturing instead of going for carves?

I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to get a Monoblos heart. Until now, I've just been killing the thing.
I'm checking it out, and it looks like there;s a 4% chance on carve and a 6% on capture to get it. I think you get 2 rewards for capturing? And I would get 4 chances if I decide to carve. The chance to get it on capture is higher, but I get more shots at it per attempt if I just kill him.
How do you decide whether to kill or capture?
