Xbox MHR - in friend’s lobby, can’t join their hub quest

I feel like I’m losing my mind. I am trying to do hunts with a buddy. We are in the same lobby online, but neither of us can join the other’s hub quest once it’s posted. Is anyone else having this issue? Any workaround?
Sorry if this isn’t allowed here. Just getting frustrated. Thanks hunters
