UPDATE on the inquiry about a firmware update for the LG 27GL850 that could potentially lift the annoying 100hz cap over HDMI...
Post Body

So it’s been a bit of time and I’ve received another response from LG, so I thought I’d update you all, this post gained a lot of traction on r/monitors last time and I want to thank everyone that contacted LG about the issue, I’m aware a lot of people own this monitor so I thought it would be important to come back with a follow up post...

Firstly, I wanted to see if anyone else got any responses from LG, I’m aware that many other people on the thread raised a complaint about the 100hz cap over HDMI, that has been particularly effecting users of next gen consoles who do not have the option to use DisplayPort...

Secondly, I’ve received another response from LG themselves, which is as follows: “I hope you are well and keeping safe. Thank you for providing the requested information. I can confirm that I have raised this VOC (voice of customer complaint) on your behalf (for the issue with the LG 27GL850’s 100hz cap over HDMI with AdaptiveSync). We will continue to work with our Development Team to get the firmware released as soon as possible. Please note that yas this is an internal process, you will not receive a reply unless further information is required.”

May I note that whilst I currently don’t know if it’s possible to apply a firmware update to these monitors, or how to do so, LG seem to me working on something for us from what I’ve heard - this only came around in the first place as I was intrigued to know how one of the main competitors to LG’s Ultragear 1440p monitor lineup, the Dell S2721DGF actually has the ability to do above 100hz over HDMI, despite using exactly the same Nano-IPS panel as the LG...

Many people contacted me raising the same question about the 27GL83A, along with the newer mode of the 27GL850, the 27GN850 voicing concerns about the fact that they didn’t know if it was possible to apply a firmware update due to the latter two monitors not including a USB port, I’ve seen this but personally I’m still unsure how firmware updates are applied to monitors so I’m still unsure if the ability to do this differs between models...

Many people also contacted me that they received a message from LG a while ago saying that a firmware update for this monitor to solve this specific issue wasn’t possible, I’m unsure weather this still stands true today, but I’m intrigued non the less to see what LG find/respond with this time, it’s always worth a shot even if they say no again...

TLDR: Update on the query about a potential firmware update that could see a fix for the 100hz cap over HDMI with FreeSync on the much loved / owned LG 27GL850 - this is a follow up post from last weeks which gained a lot of traction on the sub due to the amount of people who own this monitor, thanks to everyone for sending in their messages, if anyone has received a different response from LG, please share it here....
