Pay debt or put into savings and invest?

Post Body

Iā€™m 24, making 56K and living in NYC. I have probably $3K in savings altogether and about $10K in credit card debt. I know this is an awful financial situation but I was never taught how to save and now that Iā€™m older Iā€™m really trying to get my finances in order. I sold my car and am going to get about $17K for it. I can kiss $6,500 of it goodbye because I owe my mom money from my recent move. That leaves me with $11K. I was thinking of maybe using $5K to pay off half my CC debt and store the rest into savings. Would that be smart? Or should I use all of it to pay of my credit card and start my savings journey debt free and from $0 basically? Help.
