What am I supposed to do? I don't want kids but she does.
Post Body

We've been together four years this past November 26th. I love her to death and would do anything for her and she knows that but this is just something I can't see myself budging on.

She says she's wanted kids forever and has always thought of herself being a mom and wants to share that (being a parent) with me. She says that because I tell her I don't want kids she doesn't feel "pretty enough, good enough worthy enough to bare my children." She tells me she's always wanted to be a mother and have a baby.

She has also told me a few times that she doesn't want kids. She's a teachers assistant at a pre-school and to be fair those few times were after days where the kids were being particularly bad.

At first when we got together yeah I wanted kids. Now, I don't. Why? I don't want kids for a myriad of different reasons some emotional some of them logical some of them maybe a little illogical.

My reasons for not wanting kids are as follows: 1.) I'm in school to be a teacher I'm going to be with kids all day and am going to want to come home to a nice and quiet house to de-stress

2.) After a long day i don't want to accidentally snap on my own kid and say something I don't mean. That would break my heart.

3.) We are both 23 & 24 and aren't financially stable enough in my opinion to have a kid

4.) We aren't married yet but are getting married in May and I just want to enjoy our marriage with just us and no one else.

5.) I feel like this world is getting continually more evil and greedy and I can't justify it in my mind to bring a child I to this world to deal with all of that.

6.) I want to be able to save up money and travel later on in life

7.) I'm going to be a teacher it's hard to support a family on just a teachers salary. (She says she will work but she's going to want to take the first 5 years of the kid's life off)

8.) She has 8000 in credit card debt and I'm soon to start on my student loans which will probably end me up around 20-30,000 in debt (just guessing here)

9.) As it stands I make 10.85 an hour and she makes 9.00 an hour. She gets a full 40 hours I'm doing good if I get maybe 20 a week so again finances.

10.) and this one is just me being selfish, I am not ready for the responsibility that a child would bring to the table. I am not prepared for the mental duress that the child would bring into our lives.

  • Bonus info. We have had some pregnancy scares over the 4 years we have been together and each time aside from one she turned out to be not pregnant. The other most recent turned out to be a very early misscary. (not sure if that's how it's spelled)

So what am I supposed to do here? She said she is fine with waiting for 5-10 years after we are married to have a kid (after heatedly discussing it) but, and I've told her this, I can't garuntee that by then I'll change my mind.

This was almost a deal breaker for her. I promised her I'm never leaving her because well I'm loyal to a fault and gave her the option that if its a garuntee she wants then to find someone who definitely wants kids. She told me she didn't want to leave me because she loves me too much and couldnt imagine being with anyone else. But she still really wants kids and I just, I dont.

What am I supposed to do here?

If you made it this far thank you so much for reading and putting up with my rambling brain...

TL:DR Is the title.
