Thinking of moving to Modesto...

Hey all,
I'm thinking of moving to Modesto. A few things I'd like to get out there:
- What areas or neighborhoods I should avoid?
- Should I consider getting a roommate?
- How long have you lived there?
- Whats your favorite activity to do in town?
- What are some good apartment complexes? And do they have a separate garage?
Thanks to anyone who replies. I know it's a lot. And for context, I make around $50k a year that I hope to increase within the next 3-6 months.
