The synergy between lyrics & sound, how they existentially tease one another out, captures the nature of my interior life (wtf???); it’s so fucking uncanny how seen i feel by this band! Like, every word, every sonic gesture (ridiculous dissociative jams, etc etc) & musical pivots & linguistic seizures & sudden shifts in auditory moods, lands on me so psychotically & intimately - it’s wild af. Modest Mouse, despite all the noise & rage & chaos, is also deeply sentimental but not in a kitsch or easy way; in a way that has integrity & honors the dirty dignity of personhood; their bittersweetness is profoundly different & spot-on & smart af. If you love Modest Mouse I will go to war w you
