Was just watching a video on Youtube with someone playing prowess against a control deck and they played the Stomp effect of Bonecrusher Giant so that the One Ring's protection couldn't stop the damage from their creature's attack (since it says that damage can't be prevented this turn). Shouldn't protection still stop the person playing The One Ring from being targeted by the attack though? In the video the creature was exiled before the attack could go off so I didn't get my answer, hoping to get it here lol.

It's kind of like wording on card that would say target opponent or each opponent. If it says each opponent, it is not targetting and will get through target specific protection.
