Hey All,
Feeling optimistic about a brew, which generally leads to a bunch of Reddit posts (ala my Tameshi / Enigmatic days)!
Lets start with the list:
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/5615802#online
So the plan here is pretty simple. Play a Vesuvan Drifter, play Congregation at Dawn, chuck an Emrakul on top - kill em. If we have 1 or less cards in hand, we can do this all in 1 turn (assuming we have the mana) by putting Djeru on top, turn our Vesuvan into Djeru and then reveal the Emrakul we put 1 line lower down. In addition, having Djeru gives us a late-game use for Congregation.
The deck is heavily based on Congregation, but the card is too clunky to ever want to draw 2. As a result, we have to settle with just 3 copies.
The rest of the list is aiming to do 1 thing - make Vesuvan a reasonable card whenever we don't have Congregation. I'm hoping Jace helps a bunch, but I've yet to test Jace (my brain was too slow to realise it's a card we probably want).
My 2-man queue testing has been positive, 8-1 in matches. However, I don't feel like I've faced great opposition yet. However, T1 Bop, T2 Vesuvan, T3 Congregation is not impossible to pull off by any stretch, and this MIGHT be the thing that makes durdly BoP decks passable again (not powerful, but passable). Decks like Kiki-chord have disappeared because the elementals are just better (for a history lesson, look how Kurusu's 5-0s developed - they had kiki/resto, and then they had less of them, then they had none of them), and opposition elementals are also an issue.
However, if we can now get under some of the faster decks in the format (tron and co) with our nut draw, it gives us an angle of attack that Kiki decks didn't have.
Anyhow - the eagle-eyed viewer will see that I'm a few cards short on this list. I'm really struggling to flesh out the deck. What I really want are creatures that are effective when revealed with Vesuvan - typically "by chance". I'm not looking for a Congregation target, because I'll typically win when the 2 cards line up. I'm looking for cards that I can play in my deck because they're good, and that make Vesuvan less bad (e.g. Fulminator Mage on top lets us destroy a land by saccing Vesuvan and then draw the fulminator the next turn, which can be backbreaking. Ice-Fang being a reasonable stand-alone card that turns Vesuvan into a deathtouch blocker has been relevant etc).
Please help! Any ideas for what could go with Vesuvan? Anything else I'm missing? (note, my budget isn't infinite, but I can add expensive cards by cutting other expensive cards etc).
Thanks all!
