ONE cards (and the decks that played them):

Standard disclaimer that league results dumps are not indicative of the general metagame. They are selected for variety and not proportional representation.

This was apparently the Tyvar dump, with four Devoted Druid combo lists and one Elves list (still playing the Druid, of course) repping a full set of the Jubilant Brawler. This doesn't mean that Combo Druid is suddenly tier 0 or anything, just that there's a sudden renewed interest in the archetype. In general, it looks like ONE is shaping up to be a pretty healthy set for modern, with a lot of lower tier decks getting new cards (mill, zoo, etc), some fun build-arounds (check the spice corner!), and an obnoxiously expensive mythic that will probably wind up as an optional 1-2 of in a few lists (Elesh Mom, in the vein of Sheoldred). Surprisingly normal energy for a set centered around horrific meat-machine monstrosities.

Spice and lists of interest:

  • UW Soulherder: People love Soulherder, so I'd be remiss if I didn't highlight Simunsorx's list. It has the clean, pleasant vibe of a deck that does a simple thing very well (in this case, accrue value by flickering creatures).
  • RW Hellraiser: aspiringspike has been brewing up a storm with Capricious Hellraiser (see the UR list below as well). In this case, the main cheat targets look like [[Boom//Bust]] and [[Emeria's Call]], which can be played as a land, then sacrificed with Lotus Field. Even though most of his lists stick around for 2-3 weeks and then quietly vanish, I'm always excited to see his name pop up in the results.
  • Naya Midrange: Something about the Naya color combination just says "fair Magic" to me. Sure, peposhi is supplementing that fairness with a set of Solitude and Fury, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
  • Abzan Elves: mtwhet is making Tyvar propel an elf ball, Katamari-style! If you're confident you can dodge Fury, this list looks like a ton of fun.
  • UR Hellraiser: Brusselssprout bought (or rented) into the aspiringspike hype and got the 5-0. This list looks to play a normal UR control game before dropping a Hellraiser to cast a cycled [[Shark Typhoon]] or [[Boon of the Wish-Giver]].
  • Special props to Qua4tre for winning the Sunday Challenge with that sweet Jeskai Obosh list.
