BRO cards in decks:

Standard disclaimer that league results dumps are not indicative of the general metagame; they're just decks that went 5-0 in a league that are selected for variety and not proportional representation.

I'm not sure exactly what the new criteria are, but I suspect it's factoring color identity into things. The Mono-G Tron lists are less than twenty cards different, but one has Jegantha, and so might technically be considered RG. However, the two BG Yawgmoth lists are ten cards apart, and the only thing that might differentiate them color-wise is a Wooded Foothills in one list vs a Windswept Heath in the other, which seems like a thin justification. League collation might still be a little goofy. This isn't helped by the fact that leagues aren't being posted for 3-4 days after the fact. Hopefully that gets settled, but in the meantime, I'll try to keep to a Tuesday/Friday schedule with the understanding that things might be delayed.

In the meantime, spoiler season for the next gives us a chance to reflect on how The Brother's War has changed modern. The answer seems to be "not a whole lot and mostly in positive ways," which makes it feel a more like a standard set from way back before War of the Spark. Haywire Mite has been a real winner, giving a good rate on artifact/enchantment removal on an easily-tutorable body, but the other cards have been rather more niche role-players. Forging the Anchor has been a boon for the new Affinity deck, The Stone Brain has been a useful tool for control-y artifact-y decks, and Brotherhood's End is an upgrade/sidegrade to Anger of the Gods. Nothing busted, but a lot of handy things for decks that want them (mostly artifacts, which makes sense given the flavor of the set). I'm a little surprised none of the prototype cards have found a home, and [[Urza, Lord Protector]] reducing the cost of the most busted card types at least makes me feel like there should be a deck for him somewhere, but hey, no crazy huge shake-ups. Now we just have to wait for two weeks to see what Phyrexia has in store for us!

Over in my favorite corner, we've got a mixture of old, new, blue, and audacious. There's some other good stuff up there, these are just my personal favorites:

  • Latern Control | AngledLuffa is back with a classic. One of the more divisive decks in modern, Lantern Control seeks to lock its opponent out of the game by controlling their draws with a combination of [[Lantern of Insight]] and [[Codex Shredder]]. Then, once all avenues to victory are blocked off, win with Urza's Saga constructs, mill, or the opponent simply giving up after being mentally and emotionally destroyed.
  • Mardu Greasefang | MTGBullent has an interesting deck here. It has a grindy midrange plan with the Asmo/Cookbook package and Urza's Saga, but it can also just get 'em with Greasefang and Parhelion. Both plans are aided by relative newcomer, [[Scrapwork Mutt]], an artifact and discard outlet who doesn't mind getting binned itself. I don't know how different it is from earlier Greasefang decks, but it's new to me, and I'm the one making the post!
  • Mono-U Tempo | While I don't necessarily think reybiz_'s deck is doing anything wild, I like pointing out when mono-color decks do well. The deck also features a one-of Misty Rainforest that, as far as I can tell, is just a slightly painful Island. I guess it wouldn't be a modern deck if they didn't have to pay the blood price for the mana.
  • 5c Glimpse | BakeryBoi brought out a deck I haven't seen much since [[Glimpse of Tomorrow]] was released, with BRO providing a new toy in the form of One with the Multiverse. The core idea is to get some tokens into play (Khalni Garden, Wavesifter), cascade into Glimpse, and get some spicier permanents back (big poppa Bolas, Emrakul, Omniscience). If one of these permanents is Omniscience, great! You can either cast something huge from your hand or cascade and trust in the heart of the cards once more. One neat trick is evoking Fury for free, then casting Violent Outburst in response to the sac trigger to have an extra permanent on the field for Glimpse.
