How Important are Staggered Tires?

Just had Tesla’s mobile service out to do a little work on my 75D. Asked the technician about my tires and he said I have uneven wear and I need to rotate my tires every 5K miles. I pointed out that my MX has staggered tires and I can’t do that. He checked the sizes and then told me to get new tires before winter.

Putting aside that the tech probably should have known my MX had staggered tires, question: What would happen if I forgo the staggered tires and put the same size tire on all four wheels? Is it possible? Consequences?
