April 2020 election schedule
Post Body

Schedule

1 April 2021: Final day of parliamentary business

5-6 April 2021: Submission of candidates

7-9 April 2021- Campaigning (takes place on /r/ModelWACampaigning)

10 April 2021- Election day

In the Legislative Assembly, there will be 3 groupings of the 59 constituencies. Each party will be able to stand 1 candidate in each region, and the seats in each region will be allocated proportionally using the Hare-Clark quota.

Seats in each region grouping:

  • Kalgoorlie- 21

  • Mandurah- 19

  • Perth- 19

Map of region groupings.

In the Legislative Council, 36 seats will be elected from a statewide constituency using the Hare-Clark quota. Each party will be able to stand 1 candidate in the constituency. Preferential voting will be used with group voting tickets, meaning parties will have to submit preferences alongside candidates.

Note that this elections system is purely for meta purposes. It would be impractical to simulate 65 separate elections in the two houses of Parliament. In the game's canon, the electoral system is the same as real life. For this reason, do not reference the "Kalgoorlie region" or the "Mandurah electorate" -- those do not exist!

For similar reasons, you can say, for example, "I am here in the Bassendean electorate", but not "I am campaigning to be Bassendean's local MP". The actual seat allocation will be determined by the moderation team, and while if you have a preference for an electorate to represent you should let me know, if you say "I want to be the MP for Bassendean" but then your party loses Bassendean it's a bit awkward.

Each candidate will be able to post 5 campaign posts in their constituency during the campaigning period. This can be anything- a speech, a poster, doorknocking, leaflets, etc. Candidates will also be helped by debating on the threads and writing press pieces -- comment below if you want approval to post on the subreddit.
