Corporation Tax (Wales) Bill poses a 'serious test' to the parties of government
Post Body

The Surrey Comet understands the Corporation Tax (Wales) Bill was submitted to the House of Commons on Tuesday. If successful the Bill would devolve the power to levy corporation tax to the Senedd Cymru - the elected parliament of Wales. The Bill was submitted by the Progressive Party UK and Libertarian Party Cymru.

Leader of the Libertarian Party Cymru and author cthulhuiscool2 described the Bill as a ‘serious test of how much this government respects the integrity of our union and the democracy of Wales’. Referring to the successful Motion to Request the Devolution of Corporation Tax to the Senedd. Mr cool2 warned ‘our government to keep in mind the arguments made by democrats’ and to 'adopt a consistent policy towards devolution'.

However the Conservative-Libertarian coalition agreement states the government will only agree to the ‘devolution of S4C and Sunday Trading laws’ and ‘beyond what is explicitly mentioned in the document, there will be no further devolution of powers to any devolved government.’ The government has previously refused to discuss the devolution of corporation tax.

However the government has also submitted a Bill to devolve corporation tax to the Northern Ireland Assembly in which it was accused of ‘favouritism’ by acting First Minister of Wales ViktorHr.
