Whereas, all free citizens of the United States of America deserve the right to vote

Whereas, prison should be focused on the rehabilitation of criminals as well as punishment.

Be it Enacted by the Assembly of Dixie

Section I: Title

This act shall be referred to as the “Voting Rights Act of 2017.”

Section II: Provisions

(a) Any state law that prevents felons who have completed their prison sentence, probationary period, and/or parole sentence from voting is hereby repealed.

(b) All felons who have met the qualifications above will be given the right to vote, provided they meet all other requirements for voting.

(c) Local municipalities whose polling places are found to be in violation of section 2(b) will be fined $1,000 per incident.

(d) If an election falls within the last 6 months of any term defined in Section A, the felon will be considered to have voting rights restored prior to the election day.

Section III: Enactment

This bill shall go into effect 30 days after it is signed by the Governor.
