As chaos engulfed the young republic, political dissonance at home, insecurity abroad there was only one name on the lips of Romans in 439BC. Only a great man could reunite Rome and help the nation meet its challenges.

Cincinnatus, the legendary figure who turned from politics to ploughshears only to in his old age return to the supreme office of Roman public life - the dictatorships in the face of Aequi invaders.

Only to relinquish this position of supreme authority above both the senate and the courts, having quelled invasion allowing normal politics to resume - a gesture of supreme civic spiritedness that has echoed down the ages impressing Ohio river settlers and late republic Romans alike.

It is a example which we as New Zealander’s should heed. And now in our days only one name comes to mind.

“Chevalier” - the modern Cincinnatus. All true sons and daughters of New Zealand’s Heartland should call upon him to run to return to his old seat of Manawatu to once again deliver stable governance with good old fashioned values like hard work and respect for his constituents. Values such as these will help right the Kiwi ship of state and return us to stability and prosperity where governments can focus on delivering for Kiwis instead of party games.

Now as Roman citizens once called on an old farmer Kiwis of the Heartland must rise with once voice to beseech Chevalier our own elder statesman to return.
