One News: Why is your government picking up the bill for spending you opposed last term and in the election?
LCMF: The simple fact of the matter is we have to, the money is gone we have the make the governments finances add up to keep faith in our ability to pay our debts.
We argued strongly against the spending at the time, all the parties in government tried to stop it but we did not have a parliamentary majority.
Now that Kiwis had a chance to look again at politics hearing about this wasteful spending by Alliance. They elected us, a clear majority in this Parliament in fact opposed to the wasteful spending if you include labour.
And now this Parliament is picking up the tab left by Alliance. It shouldn’t have happened it’s frankly a constitutional crisis. But here we are.
One News: What happens if the vote fails?
LCMF: Frankly I don’t know but none of it good, it would be a tremendous blow for confidence in government bonds and the wider economy. But for every New Zealander listening at home worried about pensions, savings and their job.
We have a new government in charge with a healthy majority, and a cast iron commitment to pay our dues. Balance the books, control inflation and stabilise the economy. We have a respected finance minister who has been around for a few rodeos and let me tell you he is counting every bean when it comes to ministers like me spending.
This government is picking up the tab for Alliance, and more we are going to balance the budget and pay for all our spending. We are going in the right direction. It’s going to be tough but things are going to get better. Thank you.
