With the recent revelations from the NZ Herald that the Constable responsible for Judithsone Iosefa Malietoa Collin'sio's death was a white supremacist neo-Nazi, serious questions remain about how the man was able to remain a police officer. These are not just some dodgy tweets - Constable Pickle was reportedly actively involved with neo-Nazi group Action Zealandia, and had 32 complaints made against him, 30 of which were discarded.

Failure to scroll through his Twitter feed or to catch something in a background check is more understandable. But this reveals that the rot in Counties Manukau Police goes all the way to the top, and moves to negligence at best and active malice and corruption to protect their own at worst.

How many other neo-Nazi officers are patrolling the streets of Ōtāhuhu? Are there any other constables who think that Pasifika people are a "dirty race" that are "pre disposed to crime"? The 524,000 people in the Counties Manukau Police District deserve an answer to these questions.

The government must commence an independent investigation into the Counties Manukau Police District. Commanders and other highers-up in the Counties Manukau district must be stood down throughout the length of this investigation. All of the complaints against Constable Pickle must be investigated as a matter of urgency.

The death of Collin'sio is a tragedy. But what is unconscionable is that the man behind her murder has been systematically protected by police administration despite repeated abuses of power and horrendous views. We have seen that Constable Pickle is a man who is not afraid to practice what he preaches. How many others like him are there working for the New Zealand Police?
