In response to the Prime Minister's surprise proclamation that New Zealand had a totally new and historically inappropriate name, the Outdoors Party says "enough!".

"To surprise the country with a new name, without warning and without a mandate, is unprecedented. New Zealanders had no warning, they were not asked, and they did not vote for this." says imnofox.

"When John Key succumbed to the woke brigade in an attempt to erase our heritage by changing the flag, he at least had the decency to get a democratic mandate before embarking on such significant constitutional change."

"Aotearoa is not an appropriate name for this country. Historically, it was only used by Māori to refer to the North Island. As a proud South Islander, I reject this anti-southerner move, and firmly believe this name is inappropriate."

"This move, with no warning and no popular mandate, is the first overt attempt of the woke left to take sovereignty over NZ and impose an undemocratic socialist republic. We must stand up and say no!"
