The Expulsion of former Prime Minister CheerfullyPutrid a day after her resignation shows a clear-cut policy objective through the Government to dodge the scandal of having their Prime Minister expelled from Parliament for inactivity and lack of care.

When the principle leader of one of the key members of the Alliance Government is set to be expelled and is replaced before that occurs but with no repercussions on Ministerial portfolio, that still shows a direct attitude within the Government. It is clear that for much of this term, the former PM showed a lack of leadership within the Green Party and that the Government had a leadership team which was frankly uninterested in the affairs of public policy. This is a horrific scenario for the public as is, especially when it is the expulsion of the principal co-leader of a major party. What makes it worse is the policies which were agreed to under her Prime Ministerial position and the adverse effects it had on society. If we couldn't trust the PM to vote, how could we trust their policy to be fit for purpose?

A key example is the abolition of Charter Schools, coming at a time where the Government is currently celebrating their successes in the field for Tanagata Whenua. However, they fail to recognize the disproportionate impact the abolition of Charter Schools have on Māori and Pasifika in this country which has been clearly shown through the real data for Charter Schools in this country. Institutions like Te Kāpehu Whetū took disadvantaged Māori students and boosted their pass rates from 19% achieving NCEA standards to being above the New Zealand average. Many of the Charter Schools in place prior to abolition had large rolls of Māori students, with many rolls reaching up to 87% of the cohort having Māori descent. The Government hasn't laid out any plans as to why Charter School abolition will lead to better outcomes for Māori and have actually acted against the advice of Māori leaders who have fought on the side of Charter Schools. The expulsion of their own Minister for Māori Affairs does not help correct the record of this Government on Māori issues.

Further expulsions came from the Government with another Green MP being expelled and an expulsion from the crossbenches with Mana Hapori losing an MP.

National is proud to boast a record of voting and standing for good representation of our community.
