Andrew Yang used Discord to connect with us at the conference and spoke:
This world, including New Zealand is taking part in a new revolution. This revolution is the technological revolution, it is taking away manufacturing jobs and it will soon take away bus drivers, truck drivers and many more jobs. On top of this, jobs based on fossil fuels will go because of the transition to green power, so what can we do to help Kiwis through this challenge?
It is simple, to transition we will need a few changes. Firstly we need to ensure that there are more jobs created from Green technology to replace our old jobs and so New Zealand needs to make these jobs. We also need a UBI, so when people find they no longer have a job, they still have a steady stream of income coming in to help. The only party which will do this are the Kiwi Party, and so I endorse them for the next election!
Afterwards there was policy brainstorming
Some of the policies discussed which we are looking into were:
- Free Bus Rides
- Investing in carbon capture technology
- Free University
- Wealth Tax
Some of the policies discussed which will not look into:
- Cook's Straight Tunnel
- Raising the Defense Budget
- Reducing our policy on maximum sentence from 33 years to 25 years
One policy we were not sure on and will look into was:
- Build an Auckland Metro
