Friends, family, party members and compatriots, I am here today to announce Socialist Aotearoa's departure from the official opposition. You might be wondering why, having support from one of the biggest parties in New Zealand is great after all. In reality we were supporting them more than they were supporting us. As I have stated earlier today in Waikato the Greens are backstabbing, lying politicians. They knew for a long time that we were standing /u/trippytropicana in Waikato, yet they decided to stand their own candidate and not tell us until the last day. The Greens and SA have supported Labour in Northland, Labour and SA have supported the Greens in Whanganui, yet they refuse to support us in Waikato and instead backstab us by running their own candidate. After this incident the members of Socialist Aotearoa have come together and discussed this incident, and with a majority have decided that leaving this joke of an opposition is for the best of our party and the country as a whole. We will not work with a party that has said they believe in a united opposition, only to completely betray us by running a candidate.

Socialist Aotearoa is a party of the people, not just some puppet of the Greens like Labour has become. We will properly represent the people. The people have voted me for MP and I am here to represent those people, not the people that voted for the Greens. That is why from now on Socialist Aotearoa will follow an independent path, free from the Greens. This does not mean we will exclude possible future coalitions, we are simply leaving this current opposition as we are an independent party and not a puppet.

I hope all of you can understand the decision we have come to and most of all I hope you support our decision of leaving the official opposition and following an independent course. One day Socialist Aotearoa will write history on its own, instead of the Greens. One day Socialist Aotearoa will become the largest party in Parliament. One day Socialist Aotearoa will implement socialism as never seen before, and with this decision we believe this day is closer than ever before.

Remember that Socialist Aotearoa is the party of the people. We will care for the poor and the weak, we will redistribute the means of production to the people who actually need and deserve it, we will implement socialism. The Greens have claimed to be eco-"socialist" party in the past, but they won't give you socialism, but we will. So remember this in the by-election and the general election which is currently still far away, but we certainly won't forget this.
