Following the ban of /u/Winston_Wilhelmus, a vacancy has been created in the Manawatū electorate. The Governor-General has agreed to call a by-election in the electorate. While initially planned to be held on 10 September 2022, the Governor-General has agreed to move the by-election to 17 September 2022, due to the government losing the confidence of the house. As it is possible that, if no government that commands the confidence of the house can be formed, a snap election may be called, the Manawatū by-election will be postponed so that, if this eventuates, the by-election will not be ongoing. If a snap election is called, this by-election will be cancelled.

The updated timeline is as follows:

Sunday 11 September, 23:59: Nominations close -- candidates will be posted shortly afterwards

Tuesday 13 September, 00:00: Campaigning begins

Friday 16 September, 23:59: Campaigning ends

Saturday 17 September: Polling day, results will be released in evening

Candidate submission is open now, and parties and independent candidates may submit candidates here. All campaigning will take place on the /r/ModelNZCampaigning subreddit, and the titles of campaign posts should start with #Manawatū22. Examples:

All candidates will have four (4) posts to make throughout the campaigning period. Leaders of parties not standing in the by-election may make one (1) post endorsing a candidate of their choice in the by-election.
