Land Transport Management (Rail Network Investment Programmes) Amendment Bill

1. Title

This Act is the Land Transport Management (Rail Network Investment Programmes) Amendment Act 2021.

2. Commencement

This Act comes into force on the day after the date on which it receives the Royal assent.

3. Purpose

The purpose of this Act is to adjust the timeframe in which KiwiRail sets a rail network investment programme to take effect from the 20th of February 2021.

4. Principal Act

This Act amends the Land Transport Management Act 2003.

5. Section 22A amended

(1) In Section 22A(5), substitute “1 July 2021” with “20 February 2021”.

Explanatory Note

General Policy Statement

This Act amends the Land Transport Management Act 2003 as to allow for KiwiRail and the Minister of Transport to agree to a rail network investment programme that takes effect within the current month of it passing as to set to work on rail network investment as soon as possible.
