Hello everyone, my name is silicon_based_life. I am a community member on MNZP who has just accepted a nomination to possibly be the next Governor-General. This is a hugely important role and I feel like I need to give a public argument as to why I think you should consider voting for me for the role. MNZP needs to choose the best possible candidate to control the sim as it's highest authority, and you need to be informed when you make that choice.
I'll start with what I think qualify me to hold this position.
- I am probably the most consistently active member of the community. I have the highest server rank on the Discord, and I have had front-row seats to most sim events. I know every member of the community who is currently active, so my high level of engagement and activity with specifically the community (obviously not the mechanics and ways of the sim itself) puts me in a position of strength to oversee the community as GG.
- Due to my high level of activity, I also have a strong knowledge of the rules and regulations surrounding how MNZP works.
- My age and experience gives me the level of maturity required to run such an operation as MNZP.
- I know WW is also currently running for GG, but if I become GG, I feel like us two would make a strong, contrasting team in the main sim roles. We have enough similarities and differences to keep each other honest and complement each others' weaknesses.
Since I resigned from canon, I have become primarily a stalwart and involved member of the sim community, so I feel it makes sense for me to become the major figurehead and arbiter of the community.
However, there may be some aspects which mean I may not be the best person for the job. For the sake of transparency, you should know these before you vote.
- I tend to make hasty decisions in the heat of the moment. If I become the GG, I would need to be careful to control this tendency and give myself time to consider when a complicated or emotionally involved situation arises that I need to rule on impartially.
- I resigned from canon primarily because I was finding it difficult to spend enough time on MNZP to make my position worthwhile. Obviously this also applies to being the GG to a certain extent, but if I were to become the GG it would be different, since now the job of CEO and head mod have been split into two roles, making it easier to be the GG and have a fair bit of irl responsibility as well. However, if I were to become GG, I would also join the EC and help out there as much as I could.
- I posted this in the press sub which is apparently the wrong thing to do so RIP me I guess
Let me tell you things which I like about MNZP and which I think should be encouraged by the leadership.
- In all honesty we are probably the best community in the model world. Inclusive, friendly, and tight-knit, the reason I have hung around here so long and been so active is because of how great the community is. I see MNZP as being a place for people of all walks of life, countries, races, genders, and political beliefs, to engage with one another and feel at home. Part of this is probably who chooses to call MNZP home, and part of it is possibly the strength of our rules system. If made GG I would try to encourage this to continue as much as possible.
Some ideas and changes I would like to promote if I became GG:
- The continued separation of moderator powers. Splitting the GG role into CEO and head moderator was a good first step, but I am always looking for ways to improve our constitutional processes to keep scrutiny in the hands of the community.
- Under FTMP, there was an incident where someone was mistakenly banned for reasons not supported by actual evidence, and after outcry they were later unbanned and the evidence reviewed. As GG, I would work to ensure no such incidents were repeated and that community moderation was thorough and based on the principle "innocent until proven guilty" at all times. I will also consider submitting a rules amendment for consideration by the community that formalises the process of moderator action and that means that moderators need to make their disciplinary actions open and transparent to the community.
As you can probably tell, I see the GG role as a primarily community focused role with responsibilities as head moderator as well. However, I would also get involved with the canon side of the sim, ensuring that bill assents go through promptly and joining the EC.
That's about it I guess - please ask me questions in the comments, I will do my best to answer them.
