The Speaker has received a proposed amendment to the Constitution on 12 February 2018.
Full text of the proposed amendment:
An article will be inserted after Article 5, which is to be named Local Elections:
Local Elections may be established by the Moderators if they desire. The elections may be for City Council as well as Mayor, and the cities to host in-sim elections will be decided based on activity.
Local elections must be called by the Governor-General.
Elections are to be held every three months, on the first Saturday of the month.
Local elections are to be held as following:
a. For mayoral elections,
i. A party may submit a candidate to the Governor-General by modmail, or a candidate may submit themselves as an independent candidate.
ii. The campaign period will be no longer than five days in length.
b. For city council elections,
i. A party may submit a list of candidates to the Governor-General by modmail, or an independent may submit themselves as an independent candidate.
ii. The campaign period will be no longer than five days in length.
c. Voting on the day of the election will follow the electoral system in place at the time, with a method of the Governor-General’s choosing.
i. There will be no campaigning allowed on polling day.
d. At the conclusion of voting, the Governor-General may report the results as they choose.
All articles after Article 6, will be renamed to the Article in the correct numerical ordering.
Voting will close after four days, or when all eligible votes have been cast.
