Improving sewage infrastructure around Aotearoa is an oft-neglected but highly important issue. The Greens made it one of our core campaign planks in the last election. Good sewage infrastructure forms the backbone of any town or city. There are many rural areas un- or under-serviced by our wastewater treatment plants that have to rely on shoddy infrastructure or onsite septic tank systems to deal with their sewage. In the 21st century, it's unacceptable that any community should rely on septic systems for dealing with their sewage.
"I am very saddened to see National fail to fund improvements to our ageing sewage infrastructure in this budget." said Shadow Minister of Finance BHjr132, "The Greens have called on the government to deliver essential funding to this issue but they have obviously not listened."
The Greens don't want to see our wastewater treatment plants close. They provide jobs to local communities and deliver one of the most important services of an urban society, wastewater treatment. They have gone a long way to ensuring that our sewage is treated in a safe and environmentally sustainable way.
The Greens are calling on the government to give more attention to the issue of sewage and wastewater treatment.
