Greens address press following unexpected Waikato by-election upset last night
Post Body

after a night of celebrations at Jeanette Fitzsimons’ Coromandel farm, the Green Party leadership addressed the press following what was a wholly unexpected victory in a safe National seat

“Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena tatou katoa. I am overjoyed after last night’s stunning victory in the Waikato by-election, after weeks of hard campaigning at the grassroots level. I want to congratulate /u/KilroyNZ on his amazing campaign, standing up for local Green issues, as many Greens have done before him in this electorate. I also want to congratulate the Opportunities Party candidate, /u/Nothedarkweb, on his impressive campaign, who did an amazing job standing up for environmental issues on the campaign trail. And I can’t forget the campaign run by /u/trippytropicana from Socialist Aotearoa, who stood up for people against profit, a message I have great respect for.” opened imnofox.

“I also want to give my commiserations to /u/PineappleCrusher_ from the National Party, and /u/n4ziiporriidge from Reform. They put up a challenge, and Reform’s dedication did not go unnoticed.” continued imnofox.

“The results show the clear opposition to this government’s agenda. Their agenda of exploitation- whether of the environment or our people. Their inaction on mining and our continually degrading waterways. Their apathy to the hard lives of our brothers and sisters. The Waikato has voted for representation that puts the community first, something this electorate has no seen for some time.” says imnofox.

/u/KilroyNZ will be the best local representative Waikato has seen for a long time, and I have every bit of faith in him to continue serving this community at the grassroots level for the rest of this term and beyond. It is because of this confidence I have in him that the caucus has resolved to have /u/KilroyNZ fulfill the role of Shadow Minister of Education, recently vacated by the Socialists leader.” finishes imnofox.

“I am glad about the Green Party's victory in Waikato, and that I would like to thank the people who put their faith in myself and the Green Party. I look forward to fighting for the people of Waikato in Wellington, as Jeanette here did back at the turn of the millennium.” added Kilroy.
