"Tena koutou, tena koutou, tena tatou katoa." says imnofox, standing in front of a Green Party backdrop behind a lecturn.
"Well, today's certainly been an eventful day. There's a multitude of issues I'd like to talk about. I'll be taking questions afterwards."
"The first elephant in the room is the resignation of /u/goatshedg from the Green Party, joining the freshly formed Socialist Aotearoa. Despite this party's similar values, especially to my own, this is no more than blatant political opportunism from the departing member. Goatshedg was a strong MP, but certainly to the right of the caucus, and especially to the right of me. As a list MP, he has no mandate, nor does he have any political mandate. Instead, it's clear that this is blatant political opportunism and we find it wholly inappropriate. Nonetheless, we will continue to work with him where it is possible."
"The Regions portfolio has been reassigned to my dependable colleague, /u/answermenow1, and I will hold the portfolio of Infrastructure, as I did in previous governments, and I'll also be picking up the Defence portfolio."
"The second event of today is the peculiar merger of the New Zealand Labour Party and United Future. It is a sad day to see Labour siding with racism and homophobia in a last ditch attempt to hold onto the furniture as both slip further and further down in the polls. Throwing away principles for power won't win over voters. We will continue to cooperate with Labour where there is common purpose, but relationships will certainly be strained by this new change in direction. We refuse to support the former United Future leader and his 1930s politics in any electoral capacity."
"We remain confident that we will retain the support of our voters as they see through today's game of musical chairs for the political farce that it is. We remain committed to upholding te Tiriti o Waitangi, fighting to halt climate change, cleaning up our rivers, ending poverty in Aotearoa, and standing up for workers every where. The same cannot be said for every opposition party today."
"I'll now open up the floor to questions."
"Given your electoral cooperation with the Labour Party in the last election, will you continue this cooperation in the coming election?" - Tova O'Brien, Newshub
"We won't commit to the same level of cooperation at this stage, we'll have to see what happens between now and then."
"Last election /u/Goatshedg and /u/theowotriangle both campaigned fruitlessly for the seat of North Canterbury. Who will the Greens support this time?" - Barry Soper, Newstalk ZB
"I have just ruled out supporting the former United Future MP in any electoral capacity, and I have no confidence in /u/Goatshedg to serve the community of Christchurch."
"Does this mean you're ruling out supporting /u/Goatshedg's candidacy?" - Barry Soper, Newstalk ZB
"Um, I have no confidence in /u/Goatshedg to serve the community of Christchurch. He failed to win it even under a strong Green banner, and I see no reason for Cantabrians to vote for him in this new capacity"
"The opposition parties now have a majority in the house, does this mean the government has lost confidence of the house?" - Jessica Mutch, TVNZ
"Well, /u/theowotriangle's been known to violate the confidence & supply agreement he had with this disastrous ACT-National government many times now, without repercussion, and with the wild events of the day, it's difficult to gauge where all the parties stand. We have no idea what the relationship is like between /u/theowotriangle, Labour, and the government is at the moment. Uh, I could not tell you if there's any arrangements there, I just don't know about that. But I do intend to test the new make-up of this House, yes."
"So are you intending to to move a motion of no confidence in this government?" - Jessica Mutch, TVNZ
"It's not unprecedented for a motion of no confidence to be moved so close to the end of the term; we saw the fruitless efforts of the National Party to do so at the end of the last term. I won't be committing to taking such action yet, you'll just have to wait and see."
"If you form government next term, will /u/TheOWOTriangle be given a cabinet position?" - Tova O'Brien, Newshub
"I can safely say that he will not be given any cabinet position when we take back government next term."
"Are you worried that this fracturing of the left, with the loss of /u/Goatshedg to Socialist Aotearoa, voters will abandon the Green Party to safer options?" - Barry Soper, Newstalk ZB
"I have no such concerns. The Greens have proven themselves over the last two terms to be able to provide strong and stable governance, unlike the government of today who has rarely had the support of the majority of this house, passing just 5 bills in this term so far, and whose Speaker was missing for the vast majority of the readings in the House. Voters looking for stable governance won't be looking there, and they certainly won't be looking to a minor far-left party which not one voter cast their vote for. We've consistently polled strong and often ahead as a united front, which shows voters are continuing to resonate with our message and our mahi."
"Thank you."
