Post Body

Model-Eddy walks up to a platform in the town centre of Kaitaia in front of journalists

"Hello folks, I'm so proud to be launching my campaign for Northland and am delighted to be here to talk about the Pirate Party and why what we stand for is important. Many of you will know me as the ex GenSec of the Communists, and while my jump as leader of them to the Pirate Party may seem unusual, I must explain the significance of what I saw in the Pirates. It is no secret I'm a Libertarian Socialist, someone who believes in both the liberation of workers but also the enhancement of personal freedom and endeavour. We must never take the social freedoms we have for granted, and the Internet and our civil rights regarding such cannot be understated.

Orwell himself warned against the limiting of ideas, words, our very ways of life, which can come about from restrictions on all these areas. A devout democratic socialist, he identified freedom and rights as things which must remain strong for a functioning society. And yet what do we have? Attacks by big corporations not only on the material conditions of workers but their very ability to organise by continued regulation of the internet, attacks on individual expression through curtailing of ability to freely share information and art due to archaic laws on ownership of content, and a culture that accepts that our data is simply a product for the free market to harvest and sell on to the highest bidder.

This is not a system I can stomach any longer. I call on people from across the political spectrum to come together to stand up for our rights especially against corporate greed and bad faith issued by governments towards our rights. I issue a rallying cry to the left; we must demand more than just better economics, but rethink our internet and value human and civil rights. I am proud to be running once more as an MP and will put the rights and desires of the people of New Zealand first in all I do, thank you!"
