Frod is heard chatting to some of his volunteers

Quite good timing for this Ski trip isn't it, with the weather over the last couple of days I didn't think that we would be even able to ski today, I knew there would be snow, but didn't know if we could actually get here today. Im really keen to chat to some of the skiiers over lunch and answer some questions, thank you all for organising this.

As Frod sits down for lunch, he asks some of the skiiers and snowboarders around at the time if they have any questions for him

Bob: Hi Frod, I note that you were previously the Housing and Urban Development minister, what did you do to solve the housing crisis?

Frod: Hi Bob, thank you for the question. It is a really complicated situation, why we can't simply do this overnight, and this is one of the main reasons that it has been difficult to control the housing issues. However, there is a few things I would look to do if I were elected. 1. The reform of the RMA to ensure that houses are easier to build. 2. Update the NPS-UD to ensure that density becomes a focus especially in our large urban areas, hopefully, this will mean that there is a significant increase in the density especially near the CBD and Rapid transport links. 3. Investigate whether there is a need for a Capital Gains Tax to reduce land speculation, and make it so that housing is much more stable, and accessible for everyone.

Jan: Hi Frod, what about the Environment and Climate Change, we're farmers and we realise the importance of looking after our environment, and are worried about what could happen in the future if we don't look after it.

Frod: Hi Jan, we realise that it is important to allow farmers to use the crazy resources we have in New Zealand for farming, however at the same time Labour also realises we have to look after the environment. So to mitigate our impact on the environment we wish to do a few things, one of which is completely power this country on renewable energy, and the best way to do this is through an increase in Solar, Wind and Geothermal, so if Labour was to be elected, we would ensure that we build enough of these types of energy by 2030 to power New Zealand on 100% renewable energy. We also would ensure that farmers who are polluting water courses were prosecuted because for too long there has been no penalty for those who are breaking the rules, when people are having to invest heavily to follow the restrictions.

Casey: Hi Frod, I work in Hospo, and I was wondering what Labour would do to improve working conditions in the Hospo industry

Frod: Hi Casey, as I stated yesterday at Otago Uni we will strengthen the role of unions again, to ensure that there is the ability for workers to have a way to push for better working conditions, hours and pay. For too long the Hospo industry has been getting away with too much. To add to this, with the price of everything increasing, we believe that it is important to pay workers properly, and for this reason we would repeal the legislation that was put forward at the start of last term, along with this we would abolish the training and starting out wages, with the minimum wage being the only acceptable lowest rate, at $20/hr. Ideally we will peg increases to CPI to ensure that it keeps up with the increases to the cost of living.

Frod is about to leave but, a crowd forms as he leaves to go back on the slopes.
