There's no point in beating around the bush, lets cut to the chase. Labour supports tourism, however, there is a need to ensure that this tourism is done in a way that suitable for the people, and environment of the area, and Queenstown Lakes is a very good example of this.
We will:
Ensure that we are properly protecting our national parks, by reviewing accepted activities in National Parks
Investigate the development of a sustainable tourism fund for low impact tourism activities.
Increase funding to local conservation groups to maintain our local native species populations and habitats.
Ensure that we support businesses that support low impact tourism, and assist high impact operators for transition to lower impact acitivities.
Ensure we are using instruments in the NPS-UD and RMA to enable more housing supply in the district, where people need it, and how.
Investigate Public Transport for the Wānaka basin
Block any attempt for a Tarras airport.
