Acting Minister for Culture and Infrastructure makes an announcement regarding the Christchurch Cathedral

standing in Cathedral Square, imnofox spoke about this government's contribution to the reinstatement of the ChristChurch Cathedral

"Since 2011, the ChristChurch Cathedral has remained in this sorry state. Towering over us, it is a real shame that this Cathedral, and the weeds surrounding it, have stayed in this unfortunate situtation for so long. Like most people here, I look forward strongly to the day we can see the Christchurch Cathedral connected to the square, functional for the worship and spiritual purposes the church has, and accessible for civic events and other community purposes."

"That is why the government is announcing a substantial offer to help cover the large expected $104 million price tag. Per our coalition agreement, this government has offered a $10 million cash grant to fund the rebuild, and a $15 million interest free loan, to be paid back when the rebuild is complete, to ease the upfront construction costs."

"The ChristChurch Cathedral is an icon, and it is important, expecially after 7 years, to get this project underway. I will remain in discussions with the Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement joint venture company to explore other ways the government can assist a prompt and efficient rebuild."

"The day this is completed will be a great day, and until that day, one must have faith in Christ Church Cathedral Reinstatement Limited to deliver that lofty result both within budget, and within the expected timeframe."
