Government Submits Bill to Help Those on Low Incomes Afford Their Own Home
Post Body

Social Development Minister /u/dyljam stands in front of the Beehive this evening, speaking to reporters about the Government's efforts to help those on low incomes afford their own home.

"Thanks everyone for coming out here this evening. How are you all?"

Inaudible talking and laughter

"I'm very pleased to be standing out here this evening to announce that the Government, and in particular the National Party, has already set out on one of its main campaign practices."

"The headlines have been clear for some time now. New Zealand has a major housing affordability problem. But we don't need headlines to know that there's a problem. Hard-working mums and dads have been locked out of the housing market. What we're seeing is the rise of a generation who will never be able to afford their own homes. A generation of renters."

"But we're determined to change this."

"Today I have submitted the Public Housing (Making Home Ownership Affordable) Bill 2018 to the House. This bill will allow those residing in public housing the opportunity to purchase the homes that they're living in, cheaper than market price."

"This will help hard-working Kiwis who may need a helping hand in getting into the property market."

"I'll now stay back a bit and take any questions you may have."
