Hello everyone,
During the election campaign, I certainly raised many issues, especially in relation to what the Franco-Ontarian community is going through. It is clear that previous governments have done nothing to help Ontario's Francophone community, but a wind of change is blowing. During my election campaign, I met extraordinary people, both Anglophones and Francophones, who all, without exception, agreed that change is needed for Ontario, and that Ontario cannot be strong and proud without a real recognition and improvement of the conditions of the French language in Ontario.
I met citizens but also other politicians, some hostile to the idea of change like the majority of the conservative parties and others, like Albert Chan, with whom I began to develop a friendship but with whom I also noticed that we were working towards the same goal: A progressive government, for all Ontarians, including the Francophone community of Ontario.
So I come before you today to tell you that the PFO is officially merging with the NDP. Many of the OFP's policies and ideas will be on the agenda of the NDP, which has always believed, and more than ever during this election, that Francophones in Ontario need a voice. And I am convinced that that voice is the NDP, and I will make sure it is when I am elected under the orange banner.
I will work, as will the NDP, to ensure that we Francophones can have confidence in our province, in Ontario, for once. And let's be clear: This merger is by no means the end of the struggle of francophones in Ontario, quite the contrary, it is the beginning. On the contrary, it is the beginning of a government, we hope, that will repair the broken relationships and that will ensure that Francophones will finally be able to trust Ontario. Trust in Ontario is more than a motto, it is to make sure that each person is represented by their governments, and that means that Francophones need to have a voice.
