How to stop lag

So I've been playing rlcraft recently, and whenever I do something it lags a bunch. Any suggestions on how to stop lag? I've already put the render distance down, the graphics are on fast, etc. so I don't really don't know what to do. Also, the mod maker recommends 4 gb of ram, and I have 8 so that confuses me even more.
