Whats the best way to tell whether or not minecraft mechanics get overruled by mods ?

I know this question can be answered in so many ways depending on the mod/modpack but in my case I'm using the BetterMC modpack but I was wanting to make a gold farm. In the tutorial I'm following for the built it requires me to build over nether waste biome but the mod makes pretty much all of the nether ceiling soul valley (I'm not sure if that was just the luck of the save) but yeah because of that I dont know whether or not I'm safe to build the farm. can I get input or opinions on this ?

Thanks !
