Server requirements for atm9 or similar

Hello mc fans.
I want to set upyself a dedicated mc server to run modded mc. With a pack such as the atm9 mod or something similar.
I cannot find any good specs required to run a server like this. I have a desktop spare so I'm planning on using it if specs line up with requirements. I'm not looking to pay for remote hosting. I have that option always as backup..
What would be recommended for a smooth server up to about 5 or 6 players ?
