I'm a victim of a traumatic brain injury that happened when I was an infant. It impacts my ability to focus and my executive function and I've never known life without these challenges. I want to pursue college and after talking extensively with my psychiatrist about it, he and my insurance approved it.
I am not narcoleptic and I don't think I'll be facing tasks where I would need it for the sake of concentration on a daily basis. I do not yet know what my dosage is, but I assume it'll be low. I was reading about the side effects it may present and a couple concerned me. Firstly, I struggle with insomnia sometimes and I dread the thought of making it worse on a regular basis. Secondly, I read that it can impact arousal/sexual function and that REALLY makes me not want to take it long term.
Can I take Modafinil on an as-needed basis instead of daily? For all I know, that's what my instructions will be anyway, and I will also talk to my psychiatrist about it (though I think much/most of what he knows about it comes from me).
Thank you!
