Our subreddit has learned that we have significantly healthier dialogue when we keep gender out of the conversation, so we require posters to be gender neutral. We have had automod assist with that, removing posts with gendered pronouns and sending us a link to check.
When automations rolled out, we tried them, but they were overly aggressive. We had issues with people unable to write the word "the" because of the "he" in the word. We quickly removed them. However, around a week ago we had people complain they were unable to hit "post" with a variety of letter combinations in words that shouldn't have triggered the filter. We confirmed there were no automations, but in an effort to troubleshoot we made one with our filter words. For many people things are working as expected, however for some they are at least being told why they can't post because of our reason listed in the automation. Then this morning Automod decided to be aggressive (after someone had found a way to make a post with limited letters to not trigger the Automation) and removed the post for the offending letter which it ordinarily wouldn't have done.
Has anyone else run into issues like this? We're having trouble getting information from people who run into this problem. They just appear to want to let us know they had a problem but not help us diagnose. It doesn't appear to effect me using the reddit app on iPhone, but...I'm also a mod, so... hard to say if that is a legitimate test.
ETA: Confirmed that the filters do not block my alt account using safari on a Mac and the reddit app on iPhone, but they do block a different mod's alt account on Android using the reddit app.
