what does 'verified' user mean?

The little flair tags that I've been seeing. What do they mean? I guess more importantly do they mean that if I verify a user in one of my NSFW sub's does that mean I don't have to approve a post from them? Does the flair always stay with them? Is there more to it than just creating a flair that says verified? Does this flair get created in a certain section of MOD tools?
