Reddit Chat is broken on Old Reddit; due to a bug it's impossible to start a new chat from profile pages (and a couple other bugs too)
Post Body

Edit/update: This does appear to have been partially fixed, chat URLs on Old Reddit profile pages are working now. The other reported bugs are still present.

Reddit seems to have made a mistake when updating the Chat link on Old Reddit user profiles. I moderate a bunch of chat communities, so chat working is kind of important for our users to be able to talk to each other.

The Chat link on Old Reddit profile pages is currently pointing to a broken link:
https://chat.reddit.com/user/t2_USERID

However, that endpoint expects a username, not a fullname.

Presumably, it should be one of these valid ones; manually correcting the URLs shows these do both work:
https://chat.reddit.com/user/id/t2_USERID
https://chat.reddit.com/user/USERNAME

It would be prudent to also redirect the old endpoint to the new one, since some Automod rules and/or bots were relying on the ability to provide links to start chats by sending users to the old link, which no longer works:
https://chat.reddit.com/user_id/t2_USERID

Notifications also don't seem to work at all for me (also in Old Reddit), though I don't know if this is just me or if it affects others. The chat icon in the header never lights up red anymore when there are new messages, and there is no title-bar indicator of new messages when chat is open in a separate tab like there was before, which makes it incredibly difficult to tell when a new chat comes in.

I'd also like to ask again for a setting for our users to opt out of receiving images in chat, as this is still being abused to harass users by sending them unsolicited and unwanted explicit images. It should be an expected feature to have an option to require clicking images to display them or something.

Please fix these issues, so users on Old Reddit can effectively use Chat again.

Edit to add: Tons of other people reporting this too, as would be expected, since the link is broken for everyone using Old Reddit.

It does look like the main issue has been resolved (chat URLs no longer error out). But the other reported issues remain, notifications do not work for me and probably many others, and dick pics sent via chat to our users still cannot be hidden or blocked as there's no means to turn off or blur all chat images. Please make sure the team is aware that these are still unresolved.

As a user of chat and chat-based communities, I wish Reddit would take some of my suggestions for combating the spam and abuse. That they block people from chatting with mods of communities they're banned from, but don't extend the same courtesy to users, feels absolutely ridiculous to me.

If you're not already aware, you can turn off Chat in your account settings. It's a separate setting from traditional messages. Best turn off Followers while you're there too, that's somehow even more of a cesspit of OnlySpam.

I mean communities that are used to arrange one-on-one chats between users, e.g., R4R and personals subs. Chats between users can't be moderated by mods, of course.

The "moderation features" we've asked for are simply that Reddit should be hiding usernames of posters from users who are banned from that community. They've long do this for mods, in order to somewhat reduce harassment, we're simply asking they extend the same courtesy to users. The goal is the same, to make it more difficult for abusers, not to provide a perfect solution that will be 100% effective; the mod username block isn't impenetrable either, but it still reduces harassment, we just want our users to have the same protection since they need it more.

By the way, Group Chats do seem to have returned, there are a few other subreddits using these again. Reddit also announced they plan to bring back Subreddit Chats too. There is still no effective way to moderate them, though, especially as Reddit forbids moderation bots from accessing chats.
