If you are new to the rom translation and hack scene there are some amazing fan made games that you probably haven't played. These will work great on your mini. The patches are all available on romhacking.net

  • Dragon Quest V fan translation for the SNES - Multi-generational Evil fighting in the dragon quest universe. Make sure you choose your bride carefully! Monster recruiting and training are in but completely unrequired.

  • Dragon Quest VI fan translation for the SNES - Ripping back and forth across parallel dimensions, tons and tons of content here (V is probably a bit better for plot though!) Monster recruiting and training are in but completely unrequired. I think this one had about 4 casinos including one in the dark world if I remember correctly.

  • Seiken Densetsu 3 aka Trials of Mana aka Secret of Mana 2(3?) fan translation for the SNES - This expands on Secret of Mana with multi perspective story lines, and different character combinations changing the whole game around. Plenty of replay-ability.

  • Final Fantasy V fan translation for the SNES - here's the one we never got for many years. Get ready for a class system and a hero named Butts!

  • Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart fan translation for GBA - on the mini the audio for text being written to screen sucks. I think this is a gpsp problem. Otherwise I've just started playing this and it appears to be far different from other DQ games with a bigger focus on monster management.

  • Tales of Phantasia fan translation for SNES - I haven't put much time into this one it mashes up real time and turn based combat, it's on my 'to finish' list!

  • Metroid II DX for GBC - there are many colorizations of Metroid ii but this is my favorite!

  • Micro Mages original release for the NES in 2019- A vertical platformer that would have been a real classic for the NES if it was released back in the day.

Just scratching the surface of esoteric games that were difficult or impossible to play in the old days. Please share any recommendations for translations, romhacks, and new releases if you have any!
