My girlfriend owns a 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage ES with about 126,000 miles, and it is our daily driver since I had to sell my car for parts. Also I’ve had no prior issues personally driving this car until now.
About 2 days ago the car had an issue starting up but started up fine after a couple of attempts. I then noticed that there was a severe delay between stepping on the gas and accelerating. I am having poor acceleration and sometimes is just refuses to rev above 4k.
The code I’m getting is P0638 (Throttle Actuator Control Range / Performance)
So today I take apart the throttle body and clean it with the throttle body/air intake cleaner (it was dirty). I am still noticing the hesitation when accelerating. I’m not sure if it’s because I haven’t disconnected the battery to reset the ecu or if that’s not the issue. I’m thinking of replacing the tps tomorrow to see if that helps. I’m trying to avoid having to buy a new throttle body altogether if possible. I’m not a mechanic though this is the second car I’ve done mechanical work on so I’m having trouble figuring out what exactly could be causing it.
Any suggestions would be appreciated it’s scary having to yield left turns when people are going 50 and it hesitates
