If you recognize this car I'd appreciate your discretion by not identifying the seller

Posting an update since the last time. You guys (and some other recent factors) have me pretty much convinced to skip the deal, I just wanted to add a little more detail because FOMO is kicking in. Seller thinks this is a $50k car once properly cleaned up inside and out, and will post it for that if I pass on the sale. What are your thoughts with pictures and parts list included? I think it's difficult to judge because of how unique the parts and whole package are. Worth it to a specific person, just not if you're looking for most power for the least amount of money?

Cliff notes from the last post: seller has had this 2008 MR sitting for the past ~10 years. Inside for 5, outside under a cover for 5. It was started and driven around the block regularly up until about 2-3 years ago. It has 17k miles and seller is asking $40k for a friends/family deal because of the cleaning and minor repairs it may need. Conservatively tuned to roughly 400whp/350tq. Engine is capable of much more, but transmission is absolutely stock. It was essentially abandoned, but I can't get into the details of why it was abandoned beyond the fact that it was a human related problem and not a car related problem.

We got the car running on my last visit, but it was firing on 3 cylinders due to an injector clog from sitting. Seller has promised to sort the injector and get the car driving around the backroads so we can confirm there's no major issues at normal driving speeds. They'd be willing to drive highway, but at the moment it's not registered or insured. Getting it plated isn't feasible before sale and cops around this area are not likely to be reasonable especially with the styling of the car, so we're confined to back roads.

It will definitely need a paint correction and I'd think all the seats and most of the trim removed to clean and disinfect (possibly ozone). I have the tools and experience to do that, but for your average person paying a pro it would likely cost a few thousand. Beyond that, I know it'll need all fluid replaced, battery, some hoses, belt, plugs, and tires (I have a set already from another vehicle).

Parts list: Built engine w/ 1,000 miles (fully forged rotating assembly, sleeved, upgraded chain, 8-900hp capable allegedly) Ported and polished head w/ springs, retainers, etc GSC S2 cams Painted (not wrapped) Midnight Purple 2 CWest body kit Seibon hood and trunk Custom coated TE37s Endless brake kit - front and rear HKS Hypermax coilovers HKS full Legamax exhaust Carbon air intake/box (HKS?) HKS intake piping and suction kit HKS piping clamp Voltex GT Wing Blitz intake manifold FP Green BB version HKS intercooler Defi gauge pod Blitz tubular exhaust manifold HKS SSQV Rexspeed carbon side skirt extensions Upgraded fuel system with injectors and pump (outdated now but good for the time and power level) Custom projector Headlights done by forum member (Tsumibishi I believe)

I'm sure there's plenty more I haven't seen, this is just what I know for sure. Is it worth the $40k gamble knowing I've got a $8-10k bill somewhere in my future for the SST?

To be honest upgrades/mods don’t really change the price of a vehicle. Like if I put 20k of mods on my evo 9, do I expect to get 45k or the 25k it’s worth for the miles in the market? I feel like sellers believe they need to get the majority back of their upgrades when it’s time to sell and I completely disagree. Most buyers prefer a clean car that is bone stock and not abused and they can mod the vehicle as they wish.

You’re better off buying a clean evo x Mr that is bone stock for 15-25k and then you upgrade it yourself as you wish where you will know what exactly has been done to it.

But if it’s a clean evo x and you really like all the modifications done to it then it’s all reasonable to overpay a little (maybe 5K) depending on what has been done to it over what it’s worth but 40 k for a car worth between 17-25k where it’s been sitting for years and not even sure what can be wrong with it is an easy ass pass for me.

Most evo owners part out their cars before they sell for this reason bc they can get a good amount of their parts and still sell the car for what it’s worth on the market 👍🏻
