I hate it when I read about a piece of legislation in the news, and they don't cite the bill number. Don't you?
Anyway, I want the people in my area, (Franklin County, MO) to have a better idea of what's going on in our state legislature. So I'm writing a series of articles about the legislation our local officials are proposing.
The local officials I'm following are: John Simmons, Dottie Bailey, Nate Tate, Aaron Greishiemer, and Dave Schatz. I'm doing my best to approach these without a partisan opinion, but I do inject my personal thoughts as to good and bad portions of any bill.
I started with HB 334, which pertains to how we vote in Missouri. The next article I wrote was about HB 387, which is about how and when a school can and should restrain/seclude children.
I try to expose my biases at the start of every article, just so everyone is aware of where I come from. I also link to the current statute, (if it exists) and provide a PDF of the bill at the time of writing. At the end of the article, I detail whether or not I support the legislation.
If there's interest, I'll start posting these as links instead of discussion pieces. I am aiming to do one each week. I have about half a year's worth of legislation to cover, so I probably won't get through all of them before the end of session. As the sessions continue, I intend to prioritize the ones that are furthest through the process of becoming law.
I am not a legal expert, so my understanding might be incorrect. If so, I appreciate being corrected, and will be more than happy to provide corrections to articles that have inaccuracies.
Thanks, hope you enjoy the articles.
