Alright guys, looking for something cheap that can run a pretty OS really quick and snappy. Most of it's actual tasks will be quite light!
Post Body

Hey guys, I really have a hard time navigating any hardware made since 2002! I'm looking for a PC to put in a minimalist space I have for my son!

I'm going to be running Linux on it, so I imagine there are certain hw configs that wouldn't be ideal. I'll likely be running a debian based desktop, but I might try my hand at arch. I don't know if certain distros have better luck with different hardware, but I know I changed distros over some Nvidia shit years ago.

So basically, it's going to be sitting beside an ultrawide monitor. Rather than just finding a cool theme, I plan on really digging in to the customization I can do on Linux. I've done some minor stuff before, but I want to use this project as an opportunity to learn how to script well, and learn how to create a completely customized OS. I need it to be able to handle the heaviest of desktop environments and extensions without slowdown, some form of window manager or compositor will be used as well, and I plan on having multiple workspaces.

Other than that, there won't be much heavy lifting. Playing minecraft (a couple of good graphical improvements would blow his mind), watching videos, browsing the internet, listening to music. Maybe some light gaming, but we're talking like emulating upscaled Mario Party 2 lol
